What a whopper!

We don't usually walk in this field, but needed a detour to avoid some very cross and protective cows with their calves - look what we spotted!

I was astounded by the size of this mushroom (toadstool?) but not knowledgeable enough to consider eating it...if my friend Pamela had been on my side of the pond I bet she'd know! Did you hear about her chicken polypore mushroom?

It looks like it's probably a puffball, they can grow huge! When young and firm they are very edible and extremely yummy, sliced and fried in butter :)
When they ripen they explode and all the spores fly out.

That's a giant puffball - I've had some of that before, a guy I worked with had it and gave us slices. I cooked it the frying pan, yum!
