so I've never heard of groynes. It looks like wood? Were they put there by someone, or naturally there? I love how they look ...especially with the moss.

they're coastal defences, intended to prevent longshore drift erosion. This one has obviously seen better days - should be taller, with horizontal struts. The artistic looking holes are where the horizontals used to be bolted to the verticals.
Love the pictures, it's been too long since we've been to a beach. I always smirked when reading the signs that said "Do Not Swim Near The Groyns" when I was younger ;-) xxx

They are gorgeous! The human hand couldn't have done it more beautifully. Nature is a master artist.
